indeed what a weekend it was! a very special one, to say the least. my very good friend / running buddy michelle gabrielle eng wei ping is finally married! hurrah! and none of us are worrying because we know that her husband, jingwei, will definitely love and take good care of her :) so yayy, congrats!
i was perpetually on the verge of tears during the wedding mass because i was really really happy and excited that she has moved into a brand new phase of her life. she has always spoke about it and looked forward to it. and now it has finally happened. plus we know that she is in very safe hands. as a good friend, i couldnt help but shed some tears of joy. i am sure everyone of us her good friends - our favourite priest friggy, her godfather ivan (see picture below), jody, her didi aldrich, mehmeh marianne, priscilla, jiamin, and all – also share in that joy for her.
i can still remember when she first spoke to me about jingwei during one of our ntu runs. it is really funny to recount on the things she said about him and the various episodes of uncertainity to getting together with him. and things worked out very well in the end, as we can see.
the wedding mass was also significant because it felt like a fantastic vultus crucis reunion. friggy was presiding the mass, the youth choir was singing, i was designing and we were all surrounding by good friends from church. the entire mass was beautiful. for that moment, it was as if we were never disband because the spirit was completely in tandem with everyone. and it was a really nice feeling. besides, it is always to meet up with old friends yeah? so thank you michy for creating this opportunity.

it was also a major rock off my chest because i was doing the print design for her church wedding, so i had to oversee the production the entire last week. thank you arts & letters for helping me with my incessant requests. on top of which, i was rushing out a motion graphic montage for her wedding dinner. the past two weeks was like arrggghhh for me. but with those finally out of the plate, i can really breathe and concentrate on the school semester.
after the wedding mass on saturday, i flew down to attend the inaugural design conference, organised by the design society. the formation of the design society marks a very significant and exciting milestone for us, singaporean designers right now. the conference was focused on design literacy, and how it is important that the value and appreciation of design permeates through society. as we hear the “forefathers” spoke about their journey, their works and creative process, they invigorate us with their energy so that we can take on the baton to bring singaporean design to a higher plane. the audience also spoke very freely about the anxiety and issues faced by singaporean designers. personally, i really enjoyed the conference, and was deeply inspired by those who have paved the way before us. i really hope most of us who will be graduating soon will stay in singapore to foster this brand new design society in singapore :)
