aww. cant say that it has been too short. but it hasnt been too long either, has it? like the rainbow fading in the twinkling of an eye, the holidays has indeed gone too soon. it comes a time that i should recollect what i had done this summer break.
it started off kinda relaxing, with the desire to rest away all the sleepless night and stress from the semester. may and i came together for several workshops, working on silkscreens and honing our bookbinding skills. i also worked on a freelance flash presentation for antonio eraso co.. it was pretty tough-going with some nights that were longer than my school ones. but i managed to pull through. well worth it though because the presentation went to the higher echelon in bhutan. all thru the hols, i was also workstudying with my prof cindy wang with some research on expressive typography.
in between the project, i was away for a fantastic trip to siem reap, cambodia. awesome awesome trip. came back thoroughly refreshed and inspired.
after finishing the project, i spruced up my room a little with abit of re-layout and addition of a new shelf. also spruced up my portfolio site a little bit. and oh oh, i also worked on a self-portrait painting, using the familiar acrylic paint on a canvas. i tried my hand on some watercolouring also. i went back to fort canning park, reminiscing my foundation year days.
having missed the first night festival due to adm freshmen orientation camp last year, i made my way down to this year’s one, and for two nights. other than visiting the galleries at the various museums, i caught some good movies at the national museum. the first night i gotta watch 881 again and on the second night, the classic orang minyak in the pouring rain, which was really really cool. it was nice to see so many singaporeans taking an interest (as slight and superficial as it might be) in art, design and culture.
but i didnt abandoned adm foc either yah. i went back during the camp to lend a helping hand too. oh no, now senior alrdy. it was great fun welcoming the freshmen in the most sadistic ways possible. think this batch is gonna be an interesting one :)

this holiday also saw a first for me – on the singapore flyer. well, it was great cos it was only ten bucks for us students. it was also great to have a bird’s eye view of our city and a preview our rapidly expanding and evolving city. glad that i went on it before national day, if not i will feel more sua ku than the folks from kampung buangkok.
throughout the holiday, i also did quite a bit of reading. mostly on graphic design and typography. a little bit on asian art and culture as well. after going through two years in adm, i could look at most things with fresh perspective and with deeper appreciation. it also made wanna aim higher and design better.
i did not neglect on my friends either. well, at least my sji friends. i met them earlier during the holiday for reuben’s wedding. yeah, my classmate from secondary one got married. surreal. too surreal. nevertheless, my utmost blessing and congratulations to the both of them who are beginning their new life together in london. just met with these long time friends yesterday before the holidays end.
strangely, i cant quite remember all the movies i caught this holidays. with the exception of up which i just caught recently. also because i bought the ticket for the 3d version but cathay’s 3d machine died. so we had to catch the normal version in the end and get a refund. yup, kinda lame. among those i can remember watching would probably be transformers: the revenge of the fallen and harry potter and the half-blood prince. i also managed to catch sing dollar. mind-blowingly funny as usual.
speaking of dead machine, my two-year old macbook fizzled out late into the holidays. in fact, i just got it back on saturday and managed to put everything back in order yesterday. too close a shave since school is starting.
yup, and i should be getting for my first lesson soon. but it had been a great and enriching summer break for me. i am glad i did the things i did and also slacked the way i did.
